Designed to fit the FlatMate Fire Pit, the 320 × 480 mm solid cast iron cooking surface gives you plenty of room for everything from bacon and eggs in the morning to steaks, snags, burgers, onions and veggies around the fire at night.

At approximately 7 kg a 10 mm thick edge, the solid cast iron construction offers excellent heat retention, helping maintain a reliable cooking surface over the changing heat of a wood fire.

Unlike an open BBQ grill, the solid hotplate lets you cook smaller foods, eggs and other ingredients without losing them through the gaps. Get it hot for searing meat, load it up for a big breakfast, or keep dinner simple after a day on the road.

The 480 mm width matches the FlatMate Fire Pit, allowing the hotplate to sit across the top edges of the assembled fire pit to create a solid outdoor cooking surface.

Suitable for campfire cooking, camping, caravanning, 4WD touring and backyard fire pit cooking.

Important: Always confirm the hotplate is correctly and securely positioned before cooking. Cast iron becomes extremely hot during use and can remain hot for a considerable time after the fire has died down.

Cast iron performs best when it is properly seasoned, cleaned and stored.

Before First Use

Before cooking, clean and season your Cast Iron BBQ Hotplate. Seasoning creates a protective cooking surface and helps reduce food sticking and corrosion.

During Use

Position the hotplate securely on the FlatMate Fire Pit before cooking and check that it is stable.

Allow the cast iron to heat gradually. Avoid exposing cold cast iron to sudden extreme temperature changes.

Always use suitable heat-resistant gloves when handling or working around the hotplate. Cast iron becomes extremely hot and can remain hot long after cooking has finished.

Never attempt to remove, reposition, clean or pack away a hot cooking plate.

Cleaning & Storage

After use:

Allow the hotplate to cool.

Clean by hand and remove any remaining food or cooking residue.

Dry the hotplate thoroughly.

Apply a light coating of cooking oil to help protect the cast iron surface.

Store completely dry in a protected location.

Do not place the hotplate in a dishwasher or leave it soaking in water. Cast iron can rust when exposed to moisture, particularly if its protective seasoning has been damaged or removed.

Surface rust does not necessarily mean your hotplate is ruined. In many cases, cast iron can be cleaned, re-seasoned and returned to service.

Always follow applicable fire restrictions, campground rules and safe outdoor cooking practices when using your FlatMate Fire Pit and cooking accessories.
